Manor and Castle Ranaghan
Manor and Castle of Ranaghanwhich had been forfeited (for his part in the 1641 rebellion) by John Lutrell, “an Irish Papist,” and transferred to Thomas Lutrell in 1663. William Smyth renamed the estate Barbavilla in honor of his wife. He died in 1699. (The Barbavilla Smyths later changed the spelling of the name to Smythe to distinguish the family from all the other related Smyths).
