About “Kommandant of Auschwitz” Rudolf Franz-Ferdinand Hoss

WW II Holocaust Criminal. Born in Baden-Baden, Germany, Rudolf Hoss (aka Hoess) became involved with the Nazi Party in 1922, joined the SS in 1933, was attached to the SS at Dachau in 1934 and was adjutant of Sachsenhausen concentration camp on August 1, 1938. In May 1940, he was promoted Lieutenant Colonel and appointed as Kommandant of the newly-built camp at Auschwitz located in the provincial Polish town of Oshwiecim in Galacia. Under his command at Auschwitz for most of its existence he was responsible for the deaths of millions, making it the most infamous death camp until it was liberated in 1945. Arrested on March 11, 1946, he was convicted at the Nuremberg trials and was surrendered to Polish authorities in October, 1946. While in a prison at Krakow, Poland, he wrote memoirs detailing his death camp procedures and his unique position in the history of the Nazi implementation of the Final Solution. On April 2, 1947, the Supreme National Tribunal in Warsaw sentenced him to death and he was hung on the site of Auschwitz concentration camp. In 1960, the first of a series of books of his autobiography and memoirs was published with the latest being, "Commandant of Auschwitz" published in January 2000.
