info from E McPherson: Rufena was born to Pedro Lucero and Maria de la Luz Pinos, both of Mexico in Mora, New Mexico.* She was the sister of Maria, the wife of William Gordon of Cache Creek, California and came to California with them in 1841. She was wed to Cyrus Alexander in December 1844 by Captain Johann Sutter of Sacramento.

Another stories says that the Priest said that the marriage by Stutter was not valid. They had to travel to the Mission at St. Clara and be married again.

Cyrus Alexander died on his ranch December 27, 1872.  Rufina, a quarter of a century younger than her husband, lived on for many years, dying there also on March 18, 1908.  Of the 12 children she bore, two were stillborn, five died before her, and five survived her
