John Ball was born on April 15, 1649 in Probably Wiltshire, England. His parents were Alling Ball of New Haven and Dorothy (unknown) Ball.

John married Sarah (Glover) Ball on December 11, 1678 in New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut.

Together they had the following children: Caleb Ball; Alling Ball; Abigail Ball; Mary (Ball) Thompson; Eliphalet Ball; John Ball; William Ball; Sarah (Ball) Miles; Mercy (Ball) Mix; Dorothy (Ball) Wadsworth; Hannah (Ball) Mix; Stephen Ball.

He died on January 1, 1731 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut Colony and was buried in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, United States.
