Sally Hay, here treated, is the daughter of Harry Hay in Cairston and his wife Betty Anderson She was born before10 October 1786, probably at the Millhouse of Cairston, the date upon which her baptism was registered at Orphir in Orkney, Scotland. Her baptismal record reads as follows: "Hary Hay in the Milnhouse of Cairston had by his spouse Betty Anderson a Child baptized named Sally."
