Find a Grave

Birth: Dec. 25, 1840 Hancock County Illinois, USA

Death: Mar. 28, 1861 South Jordan Salt Lake County Utah, USA

Son of Alexander Beckstead and Catherine Lince

Married Araminta Churberry Allen, 17 Aug 1856, West Jordan, Salt Lake, Utah

Children - Araminta Elizabeth Beckstead,

Samuel Alexander Beckstead,

Elzina Janette Beckstead,
Henry William Beckstead

History - Samuel helped his father with the many jobs necessary to survive in those days, and when he was married he built the first log house in South Jordan; however, at that time it was all West Jordan and the area extended from the Point of the Mountain on the south to the Taylorsville line on the north.

In the spring of 1859 he plowed and put in the first crops and planted the first orchard of apple trees (and at date of this writing, 1961, one can see the remains of this apple orchard).

He dug a well on the west side of the Beckstead Ditch - and unfortunately in 1860 his son Samuel fell in the well and drowned.

Samuel Alexander died of hemorrhage, a very young man of 21 years, in 1861.

Samuel's brother, George Washington Beckstead, then married Samuel's widow.
