About Samuel William Benge

A well-known farmer of the Upper Hutt district. He was the youngest son of Mr. David Benge, one of the earliest settlers in the Upper Hutt district, and in company with two of his brothers he assisted his father for many years in the working of the Mungaroa sawmill. Mr. Benge, senior, died in 1875, and the three sons carried on the business till 1888, when they hold their interests and devoted themselves to farming. Mr. Samuel Benge was only 52 years of age at the time of his death.
