About Samuel Bliss

CAUTION: I looked up Samuel Bliss, son of Sen Thomas Bliss and Margaret Hulins Bliss in cousin Aaron Tyler Bliss Vol. I and his best estimate is "b. abt. 1642, prob. at Hartford" and he was unlikely born in 1624.

Also, I clicked on the "Research this Person" button on the indicated profile for Samuel Bliss and found many with a date of "November 7, 1647" of the profile. However, even though several lists have that date for Samuel son of Thomas, others list that date for Samuel son of Nathaniel son of Thomas and so does cousin Aaron. I strongly suspect that the "November 7, 1647" birth date was mistakenly borrowed from the wrong Samuel son of Nathaniel. I have run into this problem of mistaken identity before, with the multiple Ebenezer Blisses, but in this case it was more difficult to solve, because the Ebenezer in question also had the same birthdate, but the problem was resolved when I looked at the tree of the person asking me the question and was able to identify the proper Ebenezer. It is not easy when I ancestors use a limited number of historical names. FBH

Death 1720

According to an article by Tom Bliss, Bliss Magazine, Vol 2,No 20 Dec. 2007, Samuel Bliss, son of Thomas and Margaret [Hulins] Bliss, was baptised 04 February 1638 at St. Mary de Crypt Church in Gloucester, England.

What the writer guessed was that Thomas Bliss Sr. came to Massachusettts in 1638 with some of his older children (probably Thomas and Anne from his first marriage), but his 2nd wife Margaret stayed in England with the baby Samuel and her other children after father was taken ill. When the rest of Thomas' family arrived in New England was not cited in the article.
