Samuel Brockman was born about 1680 possibly in St. Mary's County Maryland. His father was Henry Brockman. His mother is currently unknown [Note: Other sources suggest his mother was Rebecca Salmon.].
It is suggested in Orange County Families that Henry died while Samuel was still a boy. His mother remarried Mr. Pettie and they moved to Orange County Virginia. The families Pettie, Madison, Henderson, Woolfolk and Sim all had land adjoining in Orange County and their sons and daughters married each other.

Note: IN THE WM. E. BROCKMAN BOOKS, SAMUEL BROCKMAN SR WAS DESCRIBED AS SAMUEL (I).
1. William E. Brockman suggests that he may have lived with the Samuells (his mother's family (could this have been Salmon instead?) in Essex county, VA before he acquired 300 aces of land in Drysdale Parish, King and Queen, near Newtown on the Port Tobago Road. 2. About 1732 Samuel (I) moved to Spotsylvania county to a region that became part of Orange county, VA in 1734 when Orange was formed. This land was purchased from John Henderson (married Sarah Brockman) who had bought it in 1728. It was on this land he built his home, calling it "White House." (This property later became known, in 1838, as Greenway. This land is believed to have been located west of Stony Point and north and east of the north fork of the Rivanna River. This land was later occupied by his son, William, who operated a mill there, just upstream from Brock's Bridge, until he moved to Albemarle co., VA. [Orange was formed from Spotsylvania in 1734; Spotsylvania was formed from parts of Essex, King and Queen and King William counties, VA in 1720/21]. 3. Samuel I has been described as a Virginia planter. 4. In 1785 he acquired 1,000 acres of land in Fayette co., Kentucky; this land was on Licking Creek, it was surveyed 27 Aug 1785 (survey #5250) and was purchased or obtained through a Land Office Treasury Warrant
- 4026 which was issued 18 Mar 1780. This land is found in Book 6:425 (Warrants and Grants of Kentucky land). The date of the land grant was 26 Oct 1787 and this date was after his death! In 1796, after the death of Samuel Brockman, the court, upon motion of Dillard Collins, appointed Michael Cassidy, Winslow Parker, Jacob Reed and Patrick Allison commissioners to take the 1,000 acres in the name of Samuel Brockman, Sr. And, in this same year, on May 12, Dillard Collins, as agent, sold the land.
---Virginia land grants
in Kentucky county, VA
land that became the state of KY
issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and were based upon warrants given in some instances as consideration for military service in the French & Indian War, and later, for service in the Rev. War. They are dated from 1782- 1792. There were a total of 9,564 of these grants issued.---
5. Samuel I left 350 acres of land in Albemarle co., VA to his sons Samuel II and William. Samuel II sold his share to brother William in 1779 and William later sold this land to John White. 6. Samuel willed 150 acres of the land in Virginia (along with the house) to his son John. 7. His will was dated 3 Nov 1762; a codicil was added 19 Jul 1765 and the will was probated 25 Sep 1766. The will with a codicil is printed on pages 159-161 in the Brockman Scrapbook.
