Samuel Chidester (4th gen in America) was born abt 1700 at Wallingford, Conn.Died in New Jersey after 1740. His father and mother were David and Alice (Bailey) Chidester.

Samuel(5) married Mary Titman proved by will of Mary's father, George Titman. This Samuel(5) and Mary had at least the following children: Eliphalet(6) b.12 Jan. 1750 Morristown, N.J. md Mary Pence. died Preston Co. W.V. (Eliphalet is my gggggrfthr.) Here are the rest of the sons I know of: Ephraim b. 1753; William Jennings, b. 1755; Silas Thomas b. 1760; Phineas, b.1757; Moses b. 1743; and James, b.1765.

I'll relate what I was told about New Jersey records from that time. Before going to war with England there was a survey taken asking if the person supported war, was against the war or had no opinion. Well, the new continental government used that survey against some British supporters, so early on in the war the British Loyalists in NJ, tried to destroy all public records of their allegiance to the King of England. In the process, many important records were lost and it is very hard to sift throu NJ records from that time on. Hope this helps and does not just confuse you more. Boy, its sure easy to get confused, isn't it?
