From England to Massachusetts Bay Colony 1631, one of 44 original planters at Milford, Conn., 1639, married in 1640 the daughter of James Pruden. No record of his marriage has been discovered, but land records show she was the daughter of James, and the wording of Coley's will shows that her name was Anne. Coley died between 22 Mar. 1677/78, date of will, and 26 Sep. 1684, when an inventory of his estate was taken. Anne died 3 Oct. 1689. Their daughter, Abilene, b. 12 Mar. 1642/3, married 22 July 1664 Japhet Chapin of Springfield, Mass., and died 17 Nov. 1710. (NEB genealogy)
Note:
Springfield, Massachusetts was first settled in 1635 by William Pynchon, one of the patentees of the Massachusetts Bay Company and a group of me from Roxbury. Samuel Chapin, Henry Burt and John Pychon were Commissioners who heard all civil and criminal cases.
From the accounts at the store a glimpse can be seen into the lives of the Chapin, Burt, Cooley and Munn ancestors who lived at this outpost of civilization.
