Samuel Crockett was born about 1694 in Ireland. He immigrated to America about 1715 and was married to Esther Thompson, daughter of Rev. John Thompson. Tradition has it that when Samuel, about 20 years old was aboard the ship that brought him to America, he met Reverend John Thompson who was also a passenger. Samuel told Reverend Thompson that he would wait for his daughter, Esther, to grow up and then marry her if the Reverend would give permission. Reverend Thompson laughingly gave his consent, never dreaming the young man would wait.
