John CROCKETT, (Samuel CROCKETT, James, Antoine CROCKETAGNE, Gabriel DE CROCKETAGNE) was born in 1737 in Lancaster Co., Pa, and about 1771 in Wythe Co., Va, married (25) Elizabeth MONTGOMERY, daughter of Samuel MONTGOMERY and Margaret NICHOLS, who was born about 1740 in Augusta Co., Va. John died in Jan 1799 in Wythe Co., Va and was buried in Wythe Co., Va. Elizabeth died in Williamson Co, Tn and was buried in Wythe Co., Va. John Crockett was the originial settler of Crockett's Cove, Wythe Co. VA. John Crockett Sr was in the Revolutionary War and a DAR marker is at his grave. While John Crockett Jr. and some of this brothers and sisters stayed in Wythe Co, others settled throughout Southwest Virginia and further west. The same is true for John Sr's brothers and sisters. John Crockett Sr's father was Samuel Crockett (born in Ireland around 1708, died in Wythe Co. VA Dec.1749) and married Esther Thompson. She remarried after his death. Many, many families in Southwest Virginia can trace their lines to her.
