Suffered persecution as a Presbyterian in Ireland.
It was during Samuel's time that the first blow was openly leveled at t he permanence and prosperity of Presbyterians in Ulster Province in the ye ar 1631, when Blair and Livingston were suspended from the exercises of th eir ministerial functions, and from that period may be dated the systemat ic opposition to the brethern, which ultimately terminated in their forcib le expulsion from the Kingdom, when even the Fordyces had to remove to ano ther country to find peace.
In 1635, the entire country was pronounced duly forfeited to the crown, pa tents to land were subjected to rigorous examination, and many had to ta ke out new patents; among the latter was Samuel Fordyce, who was fined 2 00 pounds. (McLeland Papers, b. 39 (89?)
