Capt. William Thompson III1,2,3 was born about 1830 in Scotland as the first child of Rev. Capt. William Thompson and Janet Hay. He is thought to have died on 22 Feb 1687 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland9needs source).

He married Mary Fordyce, daughter of Samuel Fordyce and Abigail Gallagher, on 11 Jun 1657 in Scotland.

He was declared heir after his father’s death on April 25 1633. William was a baker and a man of substance in the community and was burgess of Fairfield in Lananhahire(needs source).
