Samuel Gates was born in Marlborough, MA, 28 Feb. 1723.
He married, according to Gates genealogy (p. 37), Caroline How. Moses How of Rutland, MA, had a daughter, Caroline, born 4 Sept. 1738.
Samuel Gates resided in Petersham, MA, after his marriage, about 1758.
His will, dated 4 Nov. 1789, was filed for probate on 28 Jan. 1790. He mentioned his wife, Caroline; sons Solomon, Samuel, Oliver Cromwell, and John; daughters Susanna McNear, Ann, Caroline, and Molly called Polly in other records. His son, John, was appointed executor.
