Simon Gates was born in Cambridge, MA, 5 Feb. 1675/6; died in Marlborough, MA, 10 March 1734/5.
He married in Marlborough, 29 March 1710, Sarah Woods, who was born 23 April 1685 and died 24 June 1751.
He called himself "husbandman" in his will, made 6 March 1734/5. It was lodged for probate 20 May 1735. He mentioned his wife, Sarah; sons Simon, Stephen, Solomon, Samuel, Silas and John; daughters Sarah Gates and Susanna Phelps; brother-in-law Benjamin Woods.

Sarah, b. 15 Oct. 1712; d. in Hubbardston, MA, 30 Dec. 1788; m. 3 Feb. 1735/6 Ephraim Church of Rutland, MA, who died 25 Sept. 1775 (gravestone)
Susanna, b. 19 Dec. 1714; d. in Hubbardston, MA, 26 Aug. 1784; m. about 1732 Capt. John Phelps, who died 23 March 1787. They resided in Marlborough and Rutland, MA, before their removal to Hubbardston.

Solomon, b. 14 May 1721
Samuel, b. 28 Feb. 1723
Silas, b. 3 Feb. 1727
John, b. 27 Jan 1728; d. unmarried in Worcester, MA, 2 April 1763 (gravestone). He was one of the soldiers who marched on the alarm for the relief of Ft. William Henry in August 1757. (Massachusetts Archives, Muster Rolls, vol. 95, p. 495). He left a will dated 16 March 1763, in which he mentions his brothers Simon, Stephen, Samuel, Silas, and Solomon, who was deceased; sisters Sarah Church and Susannah Phelps.
