Samuel Jefferson "Jeff" Sexton was a big man, more than six feet tall with auburn hair.
He was a soldier in the war between the states under Picketts division. Jeff enlisted as a member of the Confederate troops on July 4, 1861 for a twelve month period by Captain L. M. Allen. He was assigned as Private to Company ll, 2nd Battalion, North Carolina Infantry. From August 12 through October 31, 1861, records show he was "confined sick". From November through December 1861, the records indicate he was absent from Muster on "sick furlough". January 1862 records he was he was on duty. In the battle of Gettysburg he lost his right arm, lieing shot between the shoulder and elbow. A Roll of Honor listed him "wounded at Gettysburg". His name appeared on a "Register" of the sick and wounded Confederates in the hospitals in and about Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, after the battle of July 1, 2, and 3, 1863. This record states that his "elbow joint amputated."
Samuel Jefferson Sexton came from French Ancestors. He lived in North Carolina and Tennessee. Died in North Carolina.
