"If the Tree is correct, the youth John had a son, Thomas, (wife's name probably Rachael Butcher) and this son Thomas Oldham, was the father of Colonel Samuel Oldham, of Westmoreland County, Va., aforesaid."

And on another page: Born 1680, died 1762, father Thomas; Married Elizabeth Newton; Had an estate in Westmoreland; title Col from rank in county militia; son John born 1705 married Ann Conway.

… shows Col. Sam'l Oldham of Westmoreland County Virginia as husband to (2nd wife) Elizabeth Newton and son of Thomas Oldham (wife unknown). Thomas was son of John Oldham an immigrant from England in 1635. William Oldham husband of Miss Basey is shown as Samuel's son.

Thomas Newton died in 1727 and in 1728 Elizabeth married secondly to Col. Samuel Oldham. [4]

"This indenture made the twenty seventh day of August in the second year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George by the grace of God of Great Brittain France and Ireland, King, Defender of the faith etc. And in the year of our Lord Christ one thousand seven hundred twenty and nine; Between Samuel Oldum and Elizabeth his wife, one of the Daughters of Nehemiah Stork, late of the Parish of Washington in the County of Westmoreland, Gent., deceased, of one part and Gerrard Davies of the Parish of Cople in the County of Westmoreland of the other part; Witnesseth that Samuel and Elizabeth as well in consideration of the sum of five pounds current money to them in hand allready paid by Gerrard Davies, the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge, as also in consideracon of the Marriage heretofore had and solemnized between the said Samuel and Elizabeth his now Wife and of the good will and affection which she, the said Elizabeth hath and doth bear unto said Samuel, her Husband, And to the end and purpose that the land and premises hereinafter menconed may be made over and conveyed unto said Samuel and his heires in such sort manner and form as in and by the same is hereafter declared: and for other divers good consideracons them thereunto especially moving, hath and by these presents do release and confirm unto Gerrard Davies (in his actuall possession now being by vertue of a bargain and sale for one whole year to him thereof made by Samuel Oldum and Elizabeth his wife; And by force of the statute for transfering uses into possession), and to his heires all that parcell of land scituate in the Parish of Washington in the county aforesaid in the Forrest between the two Rivers Potomack and Rappahannock; on the Branches of Appamattox Creek, (this Release continues repeating the transfer of land by Wills &c., as in the foregoing Lease); To have and to hold the parcell of land with all houses Barnes stables orchards and appurtenances belonging to the only intent by these presents expressed & lymitted and none other (that is to say) to the use and behoofe of Samuel Oldum and Elizabeth Oldum for and dureing the term of their natural lives and after their decease for the use of the right heire or heires of the said Samuel Oldum for ever; In Witness whereof the aforesaid partys to these presents have interchangeably set their hands and affixed their seals the day and year first above written. "At a Court held for the said County the 27th day of August 1729 Samuel Oldum and Elizabeth his wife, personally acknowledged this Deed of Release of Land to uses by them passed to Gerrard Davies to be their proper act and deed to his wife's intents and purposes therein mentioned, the said Elizabeth being first privately examined, the inheritance of the said land and being in her (can't read) said, Gerrard Davies accepted for the uses and purposes expressed, which Deed at the instance of the said George is admitted to Record.

She died in April 1759 in Westmoreland County, Virginia. The date of Elizabeth's death is inscribed on her headstone which is much decayed but reads

"Beneath this stone are deposited the Remains of Mrs. Elizabeth Oldham ... Departed this Life on the ... Day of April, 1759, in the 72nd year of her Age." … Samuel Oldham **of Westmoreland County … Faithful Friend

John Oldham II, in his own words, If he could speak to us today, John Oldham II might describe his life as follows:

I was born in Northumberland County 28 January 1664/5, the son of another John Oldham. I was in my 20s and married when I fathered John and James, and at least one daughter. My wife, whose name is unknown, died before 1700. My neighbors Hugh and Ann Harris had a daughter named Ann, whom I married and we were the parents of William and Samuel Oldham named in the will Mr. Harris signed in 1712. …

From Jamestown Onward by Marie Darron, pg 148 says mother of Samuel was Sarah Harwood.
