Biography
Samuel Pottinger, son of Samuel Pottinger and Elizabeth Tyler, was born 1718 Major's Lot, Prince George's County, , Maryland and died 31 December 1720 at Cotton Run, Butler County, Ohio.
He married 1756 at Frederick County, Maryland to Eleanor Willett (1726-1822), daughter of Thomas Willett and Isabella Allison.
Children of Eleanor Willett and Samuel Pottenger are:
- i. Jemima Pottenger was born 1758 in Prince George's County, Maryland. She married John Gilkey, son of John Gilkey and Jane Gray. He was born in North Carolina, and died 1824 in Nelson County, Kentucky.
- ii. Elizabeth Pottenger was born 1760 in Prince George's County, Maryland. She married David Gilkey, son of John Gilkey and Jane Gray. He was born in North Carolina, and died in Union County, Kentucky.
- iii. Samuel S. Pottenger was born 1762 in Prince George's County, Maryland. He married Susan Withrow 17 MAR 1791 in Nelson County, Kentucky, daughter of Samuel Withrow and Jane Gray. She was born 1768 in North Carolina.
- iv. Sarah Pottenger was born 15 JUL 1764 in Prince George's County, Maryland, and died 25 AUG 1827 in Butler County, Ohio. She married Daniel Robbins. She married James Withrow, son of Samuel Withrow and Jane Gray. He was born 24 AUG 1766 in North Carolina, and died 1 APR 1851 in Butler County, Ohio.
- v. Nancy Pottenger was born 17 DEC 1767 in Prince George's County, Maryland. She married Charles Swearingen 13 NOV 1788 in Union County, Pennsylvania. He was born 26 SEP 1767 in Frederick County, Maryland, and died 8 JUN 1848 in Yountsville, Montgomery County, Indiana.
- vi. Eleanor Pottenger was born 1769 in Prince George's County, Maryland. She married John Robbins. She married John Downdall 15 OCT 1800 in Washington County, Kentucky.
- vii. Thomas Pottenger was born 1772 in Prince George's County, Maryland, and died 24 JUN 1813 in Butler County, Ohio. He married Elizabeth Kinkade JAN 1795 in Nelson County, Kentucky. She was born 1774 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, and died AUG 1854 in Preble County, Ohio.

John Allison's granddau., Eleanor Willet, now Eleanor Pottinger, did give Negro Fidah, age 8, to take place at death of sd. Allison (FCLR E.997, 1000, 1012)
Mar. 1756 - John Allison, Sr., of Frederick Co., deeds to Samuel Pottinger of Prince George's Co., a Negro girl called Nan, in full satisfaction for the Negro girl Fidah.
