Samuel was, like his brothers, a town officer and large land owner, being mentioned frequently in the records as such.

In his will, he refers to "my brother Joseph Pratt." His son Samuel moved to Taunton and was ancestor of most of the Pratts of Taunton, Norton, Mansfield and vicinity.

Suffolk Probate Records 6:307: "Samuel Pratt of Weymouth "being sick & weake & minding his mortality" made his will April 12, 1679, and it was proved October 16, 1679. He appointed his loving wife and his brother-in-law John Rogers to be exectors. His wife to have his whole estate until his children are of age. If his wife Hannah Pratt marry again she shall have 20.

To his son John Pratt certain lands. To son Samuel Pratt hafl of his lot "at Pen plaine." Son Ebenezer Pratt one-half of his housing and land adjoining. All the rest of his children 7 apiece. His son John Pratt to have half of a certain lot and a part of his 40 acre lot "neer Pen plaine." Son Samuel Pratt remainder of lot "at Pen plaine." His brother Joseph Pratt, John Richards and Samuel White to be overseers."

Suffolk Probate Records 6:307 Samuel Pratt was made freeman of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, May 23, 1666. He was a large land-owner in Weymouth and frequently filled town offices. When Samuel died, somewhere between April 12, 1679, the date of his will, and September 5, 1679, he was supposed to have been about 42 years old. The seven children were all minors; John, the eldest, being sixteen.
