Cecil County was formed in 1674. It is about 352 square miles in the extreme Northeast corner of Maryland and borders on Pennsylvania on the North and Delaware on the East. US Route 40 goes through ELKTON (the county seat) and Interstate 95 passes to the North of Elkton. Quakers had settlements in Easton, MD., Philadelphia, PA., and Richmond, Indiana. A book called "The Nottingham Quakers" has a lot of WHITE and PIGGOT families listed in and around Cecil County, MD. William Penn founded the colony of Pennsylvania in 1682 and until 1756 the Quakers governed it. In 1683, William PENN issued a warrant to William WHITE (Samuel's Father) to "take up 100 acres" in the Township of Concord, County of NewCastle, Province of Pennsylvania. I have been unable to find a copy of the survey or the "return" which should have been made to complete the land acquisition.
