PRETORIA - An elderly couple died this afternoon in a shooting in their home on a smallholding at Mooiplaats, east of Pretoria. The couple's son came across Louis Swanepoel (82) and his wife Sandra (80). The details of the incident are vague, but police confirmed Johan Swanepoel made the horror discovery around 12:30. Swanepoel snr. is apparently dead in the bedroom and mrs. Swanepoel's body was found in the corridor at the back door. Swanepoel jnr. stayed with his parents but left home early this morning. According to Captain Marissa van der Merwe, Boschkop police spokesperson, the circumstances surrounding the incident at this stage of the investigation are strange. It has yet to be determined whether anything from the house is missing. Van der Merwe has sworn Swanepoel snr. is dead because of a gunshot wound but couldn't say if Mrs. Swanepoel was also shot. A sad Swanepoel jnr. was still too late in the afternoon to talk to the media about the incident. He said there was a close relationship between him and his parents. The couple's house is barely a mile from the Boschkop police station. They lived in the house for the past 33 years. Bennie Malan, a police reservist, said Swanepoel snr. was a remarkable man. "At 80, he had his car serviced by his car and he was always willing to help others with repairs." Swanepoel was a retired teacher. "She was very loved and looked after our children when we were busy with reservist work," he said. Van der Merwe was full of praise for the neighborhood watch and security company that is active in the past. “If it wasn't for them, we were lost. The sudden escalation of crime in the area is unusual. ”This is the second incident this week in which elderly people from the environment have been violently killed. Charles Groenewald was shot dead on Monday during a robbery in his house. He tried to defend himself and shot one of his attackers, allegedly a police reservist from KwaNdebele
