From “Work Family History”, vol. I (1969) & vol. II (1994), compiled by Von Gail Hamilton.
Sarah had a particularly close relationship with her stepmother, who had been a teacher. Sarah returned to Ft. Morgan (CO) after graduating from college to teach. In 1909, she went to CA to teach what was known as "domestic science", then a brand new department in the Oakland (CA) schools. Two years later, she married the brother-in-law of her older brother, Cree.
She was a member of St. John's Presbyterian Church of Berkeley (CA) for over 56 years; was active in the Women's Association, especially the young people's work of the church. She had a particular interest in civil rights - an interest growing, perhaps, out of the fact that her own grandparents had opened a "station" on the Underground Railroad.
