About Sarah [Bacon] Hutchins, Twin of Ebenezer

Sarah was the widow of Joseph Bacon of Woodstock, Connecticut.

This Sarah did NOT marry John Pike, son of James and Hannah (Cutler) Pike. She must have been married to a different John Pike. There appear to be two John Pikes living about the same time. One was born in Massachusetts. The other was born in Connecticut.[1]

  • Sarah 3 Hyde daughter of Jonathan2 Hyde
  • Married John3 Pike (John2, James1) proven by Y DNA (although see notes on his profile)
  • Did not ever marry John Hutchines or Joseph Bacon - see will of her father who in 1726 names his daughter Sarah and her wife John Pike.
  • How do we know? See will of Jonathan Hyde who in 1726 names his daughter Sarah and her husband John Pike. They were married in 23 May 1706 and she admin his estate in 1754 so at no time could she have married anyone else until after her death.

  • Jonathan2 Hyde (Jonathan2) died at Canterbury, Conn; in his will dated 16 Sp 1726 proved 8 Nov 1726 he makes bequests to his five daughters via... "Sarah, wife of John Pike"... John Pike died in Canerbury 21 Sep 1754; Admin on the estate of John Pike deceased was granted 17 Oct 1754 to Mrs Sarah and Mr. John; inventory 6 Nov 1754 (Plainfield, CT Probate Rec 4:3); lists children, etc; Sarah b. 17 Oct 1685 m at Watertown 23 May 1706 John Pike (he proceeds to choose the incorrect John Pike... In 1751 John Pike was executor of the will of Mr.s Abigail Hides, his wife's stepmother. [This being the case she could not have also married Joseph Bacon or John Hutchins.]

  • The death date of 16 Jan 1773 seems to belong to another person (Sarah Bacon). She would have either died as Pike or remarried. As noted above she was married to John Pike in 1706 and still married until his death in 1754 when she was admin to his estate. A second marriage at the age of 69 seems unlikely.

  • [Note Hutchins, Marvin Clayton. Nicholas Hutchins of Lynn and Groton, Massachusetts, and His Descendants: With a Genealogy of Allied Families. Santa Clarita, CA: C. Boyer, 3rd, 1989. pp. 2-3. states that Sarah daughter of Jonathan married Joseph Bacon and second to John Hyde and died 16 Jan 1773. This clearly is not the case.]
