Sarah Bourland

William Dean married Sarah, some say her maiden name was Campbell, but no sources found to validate. William and Sarah had the following known children:

Sarah Dean, married James Bourland. Their daughter Rebecca Bourland married Samuel McClung, who was a witness for William Dean's Last Will.

Sarah (Dean) and James Bourland were the parents of Rebecca (Bourland) McClung and grandparents of Alexander McClung and Jane McClung.

The children of James and Sarah (Dean) Bourland, all born on the Jackson River (except Rebecca), in the Warm Springs area of Augusta County, Virginia were: Rebecca Bourland married Samuel McClung; Andrew Bourland married Elizabeth (NFD), William Bourland married first cousin Mary Dean; John Bourland married Elizabeth Crawford.

Capt. Samuel McClung married in Augusta county, Virginia, Rebecca Bourland, born 1749, died October 8, 1825. He and his wife are buried near Smoot, this county.

Samuel McClung was born in 1744 in Natural Bridge, Virginia to John McClung II and Rebecca Stuart McClung. John was an Irish immigrant who came to America as an indentured servant, and Rebecca was the sister of Archibald Stuart, a somewhat wayward son of a noble family from Scotland. Samuel married Rebecca Bourland, daughter of James Bourland and Sarah Dean, in 1769.

They had ten children together: Jane, Joseph, Andrew, James, Sarah, John, Charles, William, Rebecca, and Samuel.
