Sarah Edge was born on 16 July 1657 at St. Andrew's Holborne, London, Middlesex, England.1 She married Thomas Bowater, son of John Bowater and Anne Cross, on 4 October 1685 at Bradford Quaker Meeting House, Bradford, Chester, PA. Sarah Edge died on 26 February 1692 at Chester, PA, at age 34.

The daughter of George & Joan (Barrow) Edge, Quakers of Cheshire, England, Sarah married Thomas Bowater on 4 Oct 1686 in Edgemont, Chester Co PA, the son of John & Ann (Carter) Bowater of Bromsgrove, Worchester England and later of Middletown, Chester Co (now Delaware) PA. He was born 10 Feb 1655, d. 29 Jul 1702. He married (2) Frances Barnet on 26 April 1692.1 Frances (Lambe) Barnard, widow of Richard Barnard.

Sarah and Thomas had at least two children, a daughter and a son, before Sarah died in 1692, aged 34 yrs.

As a Quaker, on 14 Mar 1683, Thomas was granted a certificate to leave for America. He left England onboard the ship "Bristol Comfort", arriving in Philadelphia by way of the Delaware River, the 28th day of the 7th month 1683 [28 Jul 1683, New Style date]. He was received in Philadelphia and later moved to Chester.

To pay his passage, Thomas indentured himself to Francis Fincher. According to the ship's manifest: "Tho. Bowater out of Worcestershire, servant to francis fincher out of Woster City, glover, for three years."

After serving his indenture, he took up residence in Edgemont Twp in Chester Co PA, purchasing 69 acres. Penna. Archives, Second Series, Vol. XIX, p 387:
"THOMAS BOWATER purchased 69 acres"

On 4 Aug 1686 [New Style date] at the Chester MM in Delaware Co PA, Thomas and Sarah Edge, declaring for the second time their intentions to marry, were granted this liberty. "1686 Att a Monthly meeting att Chester ye 4th of ye 8th mo 1686....Thomas Bowater and Sarah Edg proposed their intentions of marriage being the second time: and Inquire being made and thing found Clear on boath sids they are left to their liberty to Accomplish their marriage according to Truths Order."

On 29 May 1702 Thomas married second to Frances (Lambe) Barnard, widow of Richard Barnard. They were married at the Concord Meeting House.

At age 66 years, both Thomas and second wife Frances, removed to Haverford MM. It is likely they were also buried there as there are no further records indicating they transferred to another monthly meeting.

Thomas died after 8 Jul 1722, but before his wife died in June 1724.

4. John EDGE (AFN 1TH8-SJ) as father of Sarah EDGE" John can only be a brother as shown as he is only 9 years older than Sarah. It also shows "Jane (AFN 1TH8-TP) as being married to both John and George.

Sarah's name being the same as her paternal grandmother gives credence to her being a daughter of John and Jane Edge. HOWEVER, her "grandfather's" brother, George, and his wife, were originally listed as her father's parents, and still could be.
