Biography This comes from a Car(r)away Family news quarterly, researched, compiled and written by Mildred Morrison.

“ Adam Carraway was under the age of 21 when his father, Henry Caraway, died in 1784. In his will, Henry left Adam all of his land and tenements on the w/sd of Carraway Creek in the event that Adam arrived at the age of 21. On Feb 28, 1800, Adam sold land in Wayne Cty, NC to Joseph Everitt-this deed was signed ‘Adam Carraway.’ On April 15, 1810, Adam and wife Sally sold a parcel of land to James Rhodes that they fell heir to by the death of said Sally Carraway’s father, William Alford, Esq. the deed was signed Nov 16, 1801 and Adam signed his name ‘Am Carraway.’ Shortly after this date, Adam and Sally left Wayne Cty and went to TN where Adam Carraway,Jr was born-possibly other children born there. They were living in Franklin Cty, MS by 1809-1811. Adam Carraway owned a number of lots in the town of Meadville, MS. By oral conversation with Richard White Carraway, my father, it was his understanding that his gg grandfather owned and operated a cotton gin in the town of Meadville and that his g grandfather, Adam Caraway,Jr worked at that gin when he was a small boy. Adam did leave a will but due to the burning of the Courthouse in Meadville, I was unable to find a copy of it. On the second Monday in May 1846 the will was proved and admitted to record in Franklin County Court and Sarah Carraway, Executrix renounced her trust and on the second Monday in Jun 1846 the Court granted and committed unto William D Coleman the administrator of the estate of Adam Carraway, Sr. Adam died about 1846 and his wife Sarah Carraway died Oct 31, 1851. Adam, Jr was granted full power to administer and pay debts. The children, Bryant, A. Carraway and Adam Carraway Jr. It was also listed in the Carraway News Quarterly’s and submitted by Pauline Davis

Research Notes

On 7 Jul 2014, Sarah Ann (Alford) Carraway was added as a child of William Alford of Hancock Co., GA and his wife Sarah (Blackman) Alford. The "Biography" section of this profile mentions an 1810 sale of land by Adam and Sarah Carraway that they received from the death of Sarah's father. If Sarah (Alford) Carraway's father died before 1810 (according to this land sale), he can't be the same William Alford who wrote his will on 31 Jul 1822, Hancock Co., GA.

On 11 Apr 2021, Margaret (Alford) Crouse was added as a child of William Alford of Hancock Co., GA and his wife Sarah (Blackman) Alford.

The 1822 Hancock Co., GA, will of William Alford names neither of these women as his daughters. [1] I removed the link to William Alford and Sarah (Blackman) Alford on 12 Jan 2022.
