Notes for Jonathan FRANKLIN
7Jonathan Franklin was a skinner and glover. Where he originated has not been determined. He may or may not be a first generation American.
Jonathan married Sarah Smith [Stevens] in Boston, Massachusetts where there first child, a son, John, was born. The family later moved to Haverhill, MA where son David was born May 4, 1692. Sarah's first husband was James Stevens.
In the History of Haverhill, Massachusetts by B. L. Mirick, he reports that Jonathan Franklin was killed by Indians on March 19, 1692/1693. David Franklin was born about a year before the death of his father.
Sarah married John Field of Boston. City Document No. 92 lists a John Field as a "Shoomaker". After 1695 the family moved to Hull, Massachusetts where David learned the trade of a sailor, and eventually became captain of a British owned vessel, the GEORGE, and perhaps others.
