  • Baptism record: "England Births and Christenings, 1538-1975," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:JQTC-WLN : accessed 14 March 2016), Sarah Butler, 16 Apr 1802; citing CHESTERTON,WARWICK,ENGLAND, reference ; FHL microfilm 502,198, 548,386. (Christening Date 16 Apr 1802; Christening Place CHESTERTON,WARWICK,ENGLAND; Father's Name James Butler; Mother's Name Sarah). Assumed birth in the same year as 3 siblings were born in previous years at 2-year intervals.
  • Marriage record here: "England Marriages, 1538–1973 ," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:NVW2-MBW : accessed 31 January 2016), John Jobson and Sarah Butler, 12 Oct 1818; citing Harbury,Warwick,England, reference ; FHL microfilm 554,798. "Name John Jobson; Spouse's Name Sarah Butler; Event Date 12 Oct 1818; Event Place Harbury,Warwick,England" Marriage record shows John to be a bachelor and Sarah spinster; married by Banns, with consent of "Friends", by vicar Clem Newsam(?), witnessed by Elizabeth Haynes and Thomas Sprawson (the latter also witness to the previous marriage recorded). Signed by crosses with their names written in, by the look of it. Says they were both "of this parish", and Lighthorne History Society has provided evidence that Kineton, Harbury, Lighthorne, Chesterton, Gaydon, & Chadshunt were all one parish. So this provides definitive proof that Sarah was the one born in Chesterton.
  • John and Sarah were amongst those who obtained colonial passes to enable them to seek work in Cape Town, rather than settle at Clanwilliam (Westen Cape) or Albany (Eastern Cape), where many families from the same party settled.
  • Death certificate attached under Sources, also here: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSQ6-G3YW-N?mode=g&i=1962 This lists her 5 daugthers and names of husbands. Note that it is signed by son William Balne, and notes that Sarah had a life interest in a piece of ground (near a college?) - and William did own a lot of property, so it is quite possible that he acquired this. She may have died in the Rondebosch Cottage Hospital on Campground Road.
  • Note that the death certificate of infant William confirms that she was indeed born Sarah Butler.
  • Brother William and mother Sarah were born in Harbury, so it seems likely that Sarah was born there (not far from Chesterton, where she was baptised).
