John Kelly Jr. , son of immigrant John Kelly, was born at Newbury, Massachusetts on July 2, 1642. [1] [2]

He married first at Newbury, Sarah Knight on May 20, 1663. Sarah Knight, daughter of Deacon Richard and Agnes (__) Knight was born at Newbury on February 23, 1647. [1][2] [3]

Sarah and her husband John were listed as full members of the second church at Newbury at the ordination of Reverand Mr. Tufts on June 20, 1714. [4]

Sarah died before March 15, 1716, when John remarried to Lydia Ames of Bradford. [2] [1] [4] [5]

John died at Newbury in March, 1718. [1][2]

Mother -- part 2. Sarah Knight was born approx 1637-8 at Lynn, Essex Co., Mass. We find her at Boston in 1663, where she is working at a Inn and Pub called Knight's Inn, that had been established by her grandfather Alexander Knight, who was a Inn keeper at one time in Chelmsford, England. He had come over from England on the ship " Defence " along with his wife Sarah and daughter, Dorothy. Records show license obtained in Boston.

On Nov 20,1663, she married John Kelly ll and moved with him to Newbury, Essex Co., Mass.

Their children are as follows;

  • 1-- Richard, b Feb 28, 1666 in Newbury; Married twice-- 1- Hannah ( Dole ) brn 1685 in Mass, 2 --Sarah ( Smith ) brn 1666. No children from either marriages.
  • 2 -- John, b June 17, 1668 in Newbury; Died June 18,1734; Married Nov 16,1696 to Elizabeth ( Emery ) brn Feb 8, 1680. They had 12 children; John, Elizabeth who married Col John Livingston of New London, Conn, Judith, Cap't Richard, Stephen, Mary, Hannah, Lydia, 2nd Elizabeth, Daniel, Sarah, and Moses.
  • 3 -- Sara, brn Sept 1, 1670 in Newbury. Married Sept 11, 1695, Henry Hale; they had 4 Children-- Thomas, Sarah, Enoch, and Edmund.
  • 4 --Abiel, b Dec 12, 1672; died June 18,1750; Married Jan 5, 1696, Rebecca ( Davis ) b abt 1677; They had 9 children, Richard, Sarah, Rebecca, Abiel, Mary, Abigail, Hannah, Mehitable, and Ruth.
  • 5 -- Rebecca, b April 15, 1675; Died April 3, 1756; Married James Brown,Jr.,b Feb 3,1670 in Mass; They had 8 children; Sarah, John, 2nd John, James, Mary, Rebecca, Samuel, and Abigail.
  • 6 -- Mary, b May 24, 1678, Died unknown; Married unknown; Had 1 child, William.
  • 7 -- Jonathon, b Mar 20, 1681; Died after 1771; Married Hester ( Morse ) b 1688, Mass. They had no children.
  • 8 -- Joseph, b Dec 1, 1683, Newbury, Mass; Died before 1760, at Norwich Conn.; Married twice --1. Jane (Heath ), b about 1683, and from this marriage they had 5 children; Mary, Sarah, Jane, Judith, and Joseph. All born at Haverhill, Mass. 2. Lydia ( Caulkins ) b abt 1696; married Oct 13,1715; Died abt 1762, she was the daughter of David Caulkins and Mary (Bliss ). From this marriage they had 5 children all born at Norwich, Conn; Lydia, Joseph,' Daniel', another Joseph, and John. Making 10 children in all. [ Our Ancestor ].
  • 9 -- Hannah, b Nov 17, 1686 at Newbury, Died abt 1734; Married June 30, 1714 at Newbury, Hugh Pike, b. May 28,1686. They had 1 child, John b. abt 1717.
  • 10 -- Abigail, b Mar 5,1691; Married June 30,1714, Samuel Currier,b. about 1691. they had 3 childrem, Asa, Alexander, and Samuel. only Asa survived. Asa was b May 1734.

? After John Kelly ll died Sarah traveled to England to sell her Grandfather Alexander lands, which he had about 200 acres in Chelmsford, England. Then she returned to Norwich, Connecticut and purchased Indian Lands. She died there in Norwich. Connecticut apprx in 1719 and is buried at the Old Cemetery. She became a very religious women and did much for the church in Norwich, purchasing new pews and bells for the church. ?
