Research Notes: New Jersey Marriages 1665-1800, p. 22 Gives Joseph Beck of Burlington and Sarah Scattergood married 24 Apr 1779. This could have been her second marriage because in his will he lists the children as his "son-in-law or daughter-in-law". Step children were referred to this way back then. New Jersey Archives, Vol. VIII, p. 31 Will of Joseph Beck Sr. 8 Apr 1790 of Chesterfield Township, Burlington Co, N.J. Wife, Sarah was left a bed, 6 pewter plates and dish; 4 chairs, walnut chest and a pair of silver shoebuckles. Son-in-law, Benjamin Scattergood, 12 pounds when 21. Daughter-in-law, Rebekah Scattergood, 7 pounds, 3 chairs and pewter sugar bowl, when 18. Daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Scattergood, 7 pounds, and 3 chairs, when 18. Remainder of personal estate to be sold and proceedsto be used by wife during term of her life; after her decease, remainder of estate to be divided equally between my above named children-in-law, and my sons, Henry and Joseph Beck. Executors - wife, Sarah and Caleb Shreve. Proved 14 Apr 1791. She married (Scattergood) who was not a member of Friends around 1779. By 1788 she was wife to Joseph Beck and she had 3 children by Scattergood. Records ofthe Chesterfield, N. J. Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends, Men's Minutes, 1756-1786, R.
