Registered as Sarah E.M. Green rego no V1844931 and 37A/1844 Church of England Willoughby NSW

Baptised 10th June 1851 at Church of England Willoughby by the Rev. W. B. CLARKE, as Sarah Harriet Hales Green, her parents listed as George and Maria Green living at Milsons Point she was baptised along with her siblings on the same day

  • Robert Nathaniel born 29th May 1838
  • James Absalom born 7th May 1840 (spelt Absalom)
  • Agnes Martha born 22nd May 1842
  • Sarah Harriet Hales born 23rd May 1844 (descendants believe her name should be spelt Alce)
  • Charlotte Lydia born 23rd August 1846

(interesting to note that George and Maria gave birth to Charles John Green on the 23rd September 1851 - 4 months later and he was not baptised until 30th July 1854, I wonder what was the reason for the baptism of all the children so close to the birth of James (why not just wait until his birth - and then leaving James’ baptism for another nearly3 years!)

Notes - From Evergreen Memories

“ The eighth child and third daughter of George and Maria was born on the 23rd May 1844 into what was by then an affluent and respected and respected family in the colony. Her childhood was a happy one, with three sisters and seven brothers to keep her company. She told in later years how the girls of the family were always kept busy helping in the household, and were trained in sewing and needlework by their mother.

Sarah was baptised on the 10th June 1851 at the Church of St Thomas in the Parish of

Willoughby. The officiating minister at her baptism, the Rev W. Branwhite-Clarke, whose

signature appears on so many of the family’s birth , death and marriage certificates, also has a place in Australia’s history and deserves mention in this story:
