About Sarah Sawyer

James Sawyer was a weaver. He first appears in Gloucester history in 1677, on the birth of his son Nathaniel. He was selectman of Gloucester in 1698, and died in the town May 30, 1703.

His wife Sarah, daughter of Thomas Bray, was still living in 1726.

James and Sarah (Bray) Sawyer had children:

  • 1. Thomas, married first, February 17, 1690. Hannah Millett, died September 15. 1690; married 2nd) Hannah, widow Foster
  • 2. John, married February 20, 1701, Rebecca Stamford
  • 3. Mary, married December 5, 1699, William Ring
  • 4. Nathaniel, born October 29, 1677; married November 4, 1706, Hannah Parker
  • 5. Abraham, born November 5, 1680, died unmarried. 1751.
  • 6. Sarah, born June 19, 1683, died August 26, 1724; married April 1, 1708, John Mariner.
  • 7. Isaac, born February 14, 1684; removed 1725 to Falmouth. Maine, died there 1772; married March 19, 1706, Martha Pond
  • 8. Jacob, born February 24, 1687, removed to Falmouth, 1725, with brother Isaac; married February 2, 1716, Sarah Wallis;
