About Sarah (Smith) Lee - Pantony [Convict "Lady Juliana" 1790]

Sarah SMITH was convicted of theft on 2 April 1788 at Old Bailey and she was sentenced to 7 years transportation. She arrived in Australia on 3 June 1790 on "Lady Juliana"

Sarah was sent to Norfolk Island arriving in August 1790 on "Surprize"

Sarah had a relationship / marriage with George LEE on Norfolk Island and they had the following children

  • 1796 Maria

George drowned on 28 June 1796 on Norfolk Island

Sarah had a relationship / marriage with William PANTONY on Norfolk Island c1803

  • Note some sites have them having a daughter Sarah in 1804 who died young

Following her death William PANTONY raised her 2 children

NOTES

There is some suggestion that the father of Sarah's children was James Lee, Marine "Scarborough" 1788 rather than George Lee, Convict "Admiral Barrington" 1791 but there is substantial evidence that James was never on Norfolk Island and that he was alive after Sarah's partner/husband drowned on Norfolk Island in 1795
