Henry was born in 1715. He passed away in 1793. [1]

Henry Tate was born in New Kent Co VA. In 1720, Hanover Co was formed from part of New Kent Co and the family records were recorded in the new county. After his father's death in 1759, Henry was named in the church records as inheriting land with some of his brothers. About 1732 at age 20, he married Sarah Netherland, probably in Louisa Co VA. They had a large family of 12 children. Henry was probably a carpenter because court records show that William Price was apprenticed to him to learn the carpentry trade. In 1754, they sold land that Sarah inherited from her father in Louisa Co VA and migrated to Bedford Co VA. In 1755, Henry took the oath of allegiance to the King there. However, when the American Revolution came, Henry furnished supplies to the army in Dec 1780, Apr 1781, Feb 1781, and Mar 1783. In 1781, Campbell Co was formed from part of Bedford Co and this Tate family now left records in the new county. In 1784, Henry wrote his will naming
wife Sarah,

  1. daughter Mary (wife of Chesley Davis),
  2. daughter Sarah Calloway,
  3. daughter Tabitha Calloway's children,
  4. eldest son Jesse Tate,
  5. Charles Tate,
  6. Elizabeth Harris,
  7. Anne Anthony,
  8. Nathaniel Tate, and
  9. 2 youngest sons Edmund Tate and
  10. Caleb Tate,
  11. Euphan Rucker, and youngest daughter
  12. Sarah Henry Tate

.
The children were named in birth order in the will. Sarah lived until 1802 when she died in Lynchburg VA.
