PIONEER WOMAN DIES IN EUREKA OF EXTENDED ILLNESS
EUREKA-Mrs. Sarah A. Smith Thomas, pioneer resident of Tintic, died at her home here Tuesday after a year's illness.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Provo on January 4, 1856, a daughter of of Captain James Smith, who was in charge of one of the early Mormon immigrant trains and was a friend of Jim Bridger and Bill Jackson, early scouts. He also built the first flour mill in Provo.
Mrs. Thomas was married to V.L. Thomas, June 20, 1873 and moved to Silver City in the same year. They moved to Eureka in 1883, where they have since resided. She was always active in civic and social affairs and was a charter member of the Entre Nous Literary Club.
Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Mrs. H.L. Hayward, Eureka; one grandson, Clarence Tomlinson, Salt Lake; a brother and two sisters, James Smith, Delta, Mrs. J.P. Thompson, Horseshoe Bend, Idaho; Mrs. R.T. Davis, Weiser, Idaho.
Funeral services will be held at the residence at 2 p.m. Thursday under the direction of the Christian Science Church, with Theodore B. Miller in charge. Interment will be in the Eureka City Cemetery.
