Gov. Gabriel Johnston gave a land patent to Thomas Kearsey. The mark of the X by the Williams named Sarah is taken as a gift deed. That Williams family was Old Cheraw and became Regulators for Johnston Creek peace keepers as native inbetween the Cherokee and the Incoming SC influx of Europeans.

Edge. Co. Db C, page 318, deed date 16 Jan 1765, recorded Jul Ct 1765, Thomas Hearsay, Blaton Co, NC (Bladen Co), to Micajah Thomas, Edge. Co for 200 pds, a tract on the north side of Tar River it being all that tract of land granted by Gabriel Johnston, Esq to the said Thomas Kersey, dated 1 Mar (1743), beginning at a hickory on the river above the mouth of (? Branch) then north 45 west 213 poles to the center of three trees then north 45 east 300 poles to a pine then south 45 east 134 poles to a (bank) on the river then down the various courses of said river to the first station, containing in the hole 400 acres, signed Thos Kersey, wit (Williams), Sarah Williams (X), Dun Lamon (proved).
