Population schedules of the seventh census of the United States, 1850, Tennessee, p. 423B (p. 289 of the Archive.org upload)

In 1850, 18 year old Selena S. Cathey (b.1832 in Tennessee) was living with her father, James Cathey (b.1787 in North Carolina), and older sister, Aylcye (Alyce) G. Cathey, age 24 (b.1826 in Tennessee).
She preferred to be called by her middle name, "Selina".

((The Cathey family was well-represented in the 1850 census for Cannon County, TN. One "James B. Cathey", age 21, b.1829 in Indiana was actually Samuel B. Cathey (Sam'l B.). In the same household, Samuel had a brother named James (b.1833 in TN), and their father was also James Cathey (b.1801 in NC, m. to "Milly" also from NC).
((Their grandfather, evidently living next door, was Samuel Cathey (b. 1777 in South Carolina, m. to "Margaret" from North Carolina). In their household lived a daughter, Jane Cathey (b. 1800 and apparently single). Jane was likely the sister of James Cathey (b.1801).))
The elder James Cathey (b.1787 in NC) with whom lived Selina (b.1832 in TN) and Aylcye (b.1826 in TN), likely his daughters -- was possibly the nephew of Samuel Cathey, Sr. (b.1777 in SC). Furthermore, this smaller Cathey family actually resided within the household of William and Elizabeth OLIVER (both of TN), a young couple with six young children. These OLIVERs evidently lived next door to the OLIVER grandparents, MOSES (of NC) and JANE (born in VA). James Cathey's wife, the mother of Selina Cathey Thompson, was none other than SARAH OLIVER. She had passed away before this 1850 census, leaving her husband widowed with motherless children.
Also note that Moses Oliver was born in N.C., his wife Jane born in Virginia.
