About William Thompson
THOMPSON Family Records from a Bible in the posession of Mrs. G. T. Sims, Yellville, Arkansas, and supplied by Glenna Gandy Carlson of La Verne, California. She states that the records apply mainly to Dallas County, "Arkansas" [really Dallas Co., Texas, as some are buried there but not in Dallas Co., Arkansas], and that the Cathey family was in Augusta County, Virginia, prior to the Revolution.
NOTE: There is no connection to Dallas Co., Arkansas for this family; only to Dallas, Texas. The statement that these Catheys originated in Augusta County, Virginia prior to the Revolution is probably true although unsubstantiated (by me, anyway).
William Thompson on Arkansas Connections
I find no proof whatsoever of William Thompson having a middle name. I feel that it was included in error, possibly confused with another person, "Alexander Thompson" who also lived in Yellville.
William Thompson on Findagrave
NOTE: IF "Alexander" was his middle name, it has NOT been proven. He was known in life as "Pillow"; and his son who was named after him was "William Pillow Thompson". Family historian identified him as "William P. Thompson".

On Findagrave, someone insisted on identifying him incorrectly and without proof, with "Alexander" for his middle name, as in the following quote:
William Alexander Thompson was born on June 8th, 1824 in Tennessee to Isaac Thompson and Sarah James. He came to Marion County in 1857. He first married P[er]lina Susannah Hollis and had three children. After the death of P[er]lina, he remarried Sarah Selina Cathey and had eight children. When the war came, William served the South as a 1st Lieutenant in Company C of Harrell's Arkansas Cavalry. He enlisted at Yellville, Arkansas on March 3rd, 1863. He survived the war and returned home. He settled near the Water Creek area in Marion County, where he died on February 11th, 1920.
This error led to a great deal of confusion, requiring a great deal of effort to sort out.

William and Ammon, sons of Isaac and Sarah (James) Thompson, married two Hollis sisters of Tennessee: Perlina and Perilda. William's second wife was Sarah Selina Cathey, also of Tennessee.

William and Perlina (Hollis) Thompson as found in the 1850 census for Cannon County, TN. At this time, they only had one child, and William's future second wife, Selina Cathey is also listed in the same census, along with numerous other Cathey's, Hollises, and the mother and younger brothers of William.
