Hiram Evans served in the Union Army during the American Civil War in Battery "B", 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery. He enlisted on 28 Jun 1861 as a Corporal and was promoted to a Sergeant the same day. He was promoted to Quartermaster Sergeant on 2 Aug 1861. He mustered out on 9 Jul 1864. He also served in Company C, 7th United States Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment, probably after his discharge from the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery.
