Jt. master of the game, keeper, and ranger of Feckenham forest, Worcs. 1614; sheriff, Worcs. 1614-15.
Biography When only four years of age, Talbot succeeded his father to Salwarpe, which had come into the family during the reign of Henry VII. He lived, however, at Lacock near Chippenham with his mother who, together with her sister Grace, wife of Anthony Mildmay, was a coheir of Sir Henry Sharington. She survived her husband, her son Sharington, and her second husband Sir Robert Stapleton, and lived at Lacock ‘in an old-fashioned style’, giving hospitality to many travellers including royalty, until 1646.
Talbot was only 20 when returned to Parliament for Chippenham. The bailiffs of the borough had paid an annual rent of £58 to Henry Sharington for the tolls of markets and fairs, and after his death they divided the amount between Mildmay and Stapleton, the husbands of the coheirs, so the family influence is plain. Apart from his one return to Parliament (where the only reference to him is his payment of 10s. for the poor when given leave to depart, 25 Nov. 1597), the whole of Talbot’s public career lies outside the Elizabethan period. He was buried 6 Dec. 1642 at Salwarpe, and was succeeded by a son of the same name, a royalist in the civil war.
