Sigi (67), from Farm Undermilkwood, Kini bay, Port Elizabeth, was found murdered on 2nd February 2009. He sustained severe head wounds.
A bloody shovel was lying on the ground next to a blanket "and because the puppy Woody was sitting by this blanket and howling, I lifted it," said the shocked tenant, Mr. Patrick Francis, said yesterday.
"When I lifted the blanket, I got the shock of my life because there was Sigi lying there. Deadly death. It was as if Woody called me."
Mr. According to Francis, Sigi Franke (67), owner of the smallholding Undermilkwood, had huge cuts on his head.
Franke's body was found on the back porch of his house at around 17:20.
The police suspect the attack must have taken place two or three hours earlier, said Insp. Police spokesman Alwin Labans said.
The motive for the murder is still unclear. "Nothing was stolen and we don't have any suspects yet," said Labans.

- Franke's wife, Wendy, was still in England when the murder was committed. She is now on her way back to South Africa and should be in the country today.
"She often went there to take care of people with terminal illnesses in hospitals and homes. She wouldn't be back until two weeks later," said Francis' wife, Liz.
The Franke couple's son was still too shocked to speak to the media yesterday. He had to deliver the shocking news of his father's murder to his mother in England.
