Silas Bacon Jr. was born on Rt. 2 east of Boswell, Oklahoma to Silas Solomon Bacon and Esther Mae Jones Bacon on November 7, 1930. His Choctaw family consisted of 5 brothers and 5 sisters. They called him "Tommy", short for "Tom Cat". He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Mary Toeplitz of Midwest City, Esther Lee Crowder of Medicine Park, Oklahoma, and Sally Robertson of Lubbock, Texas, brothers, David, Hob and James Bacon of Boswell, Oklahoma, grand-daughter, Taylor Michele Hager, and son-in-law, Brad Hager of Lone Oak. He married Ruth Vanell Peevy in Mena, Arkansas on July 5, 1951. His wife of 52 years, Ruth passed on October 11, 2003 in Tyler, Texas. Silas is survived by sisters, Ann Calhoun of San Antonio, Frances Chandler of Calera, Oklahoma, brother, Joe Bacon of Boswell, Oklahoma, special friend, Shirley Hogan, daughters Michele Chitsey and husband, Danny of Mount Vernon, Debra Hager of Lone Oak, and Barbara Hardy and husband, Clint of Sims. His grand-children are Amy Miles and husband, Marion, B.K. Hager and wife Krista, Clint Chitsey and wife Faustine, Tiffany Nussey, Jamie Frantom and husband, Eddie, and Michael Silas Hager. Great-grandchildren are Garrett Hager, Abby Nussey, Haley Nussey, Kason Miles, Bethany Stroope, John Wesley Hardy, Harper Taylor Hager, and Maylea Ruth Frantom, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Silas Bacon was baptized at Lake Cypress Springs during the First Baptist Church's reconstructions, several years ago. He was an award-winning calf roper and horse shoe player. Silas was an accomplished horseman and dog trainer. He earned his living as a welder and retired from Rockwell/Boeing of Sulphur Springs, almost twenty years ago. He passed from this life, in his beloved home of 44 years, on May 5, 2014. He was 83 years old.
