Born in Framingham, Mass in 1728. He was 11 years old when his father died and he inherited no real estate. On becoming of age he emigrated to the frontiers of western Mass. After his marriage in 1750 he lived first in Sudbury, then twelve years in Natick; but in 1765 he moved to Dublin, New Hampshire, where he bought a large farm.
During the Revolution he was in th American army, though fifty years of age. At the time of Gen Burgoyne's invasion of New York from Canada, Silas Stone enlisted in Capt Blodgett's company, Col Nathan Hale's Second New Hampshire Regiment, and served in the battle which resulted in the surrender of Gen Burgoune's army at Saratoga, 17 Oct. 1777. About a week later while returning to Albany, he died in the army at Lansingburg, N.Y. Silas Stone married in Sherborn, Mass, Elizabeth Russell . There were 13 children.
