"Mrs. Sylvia Chesebro Stanton, 87 years of age, passed beyond our fellowship Wednesday morning, Oct. 16 at 9 o'clock. After a night of great suffering she gave up the struggle and awoke in her Master's presence, inheriting the life and love for which she had been waiting. Her funeral was held Friday at 2 o'clock in the Methodist church, where 5 years and 14 days ago a like ceremony was performed for her late husband, Legrand Stanton. The same funeral text was chosen from the same worn family Bible, 'I will look unto the hills, from whence cometh my help,' preached by Rev. E. L. Norton, and used again by Rev. Charles Shumway in a most comforting sermon. The close attachment to her late husband, with whom she had lived some 60 years, was always throbbing in her memory. She was so lonely without him. She was in the habit of wandering in the cemetery close by. Now the trees overshadow two mounds where the aged couple sleep ... She was attentively cared for by her foster daughter, Mrs. Henry Linger, and family. Mrs. Stanton is survived by but one of the large family of Maxson Chesebro: her sister, Mrs. Levi Samson; and one brother-in-law, George Wilcox. of West Edmeston; and a large number of nieces and nephews ..."
