"He died on February 7th, 1725 (see House of Lords' Appeals, 'Cumming v. Ferguson', and the probate at Somerset House of Sir Alexander's will), and it is said that his death which took place at Culter was hastened by his losses and disappointments. He was buried under his seat in the Kirk of Culter, since pulled down and rebuilt on a slightly different site, and his widow, Elizabeth Dennis, who did not long survive him, was buried beside him." Biographical Summary
"Alexander Cumming, of Culter, co. Aberdeen, the younger, 1st s. and h. ap. of Alexander Cumming, of Culter (d. about 1715), by Helen, da. of James Allardyce, of that ilk, was b. about 1674 ; admitted as Advocate, 1691, and was v.p. cr. a Baronet [S.], 28 Feb. 1695, with rem. to heirs male whatsoever. He was M.P. for Aberdeenshire (four Paris.) 1709-22 ; was " Conservator of the Scots' privileges in the Low Countries," 1705-06 ; is said to have " been the means of saving the life of King George II " ; F.R.S., 1720, and was in that year a heavy loser in the South Sea stock panic. He m. firstly, in or before 1690, Elizabeth, da. of Sir Alexander Swinton, of Mersington, Senator of the College of Justice under the style of Lord Mersington, by his 2d wife, Alison, da. of John Skene, of Hallyards. She d. April 1709. He m. secondly, Elizabeth, da. and coheir of William Dennis, of Pucklechurch, co. Gloucester. He d. 7 Feb. 1724/5, aged 55, and was bur. in the church of Culter. Will pr. 1725. His widow d. soon after him, and was bur. with him."
