About Sir David Cuningham of Robertland, 4th Baronet
SIR DAVID CUNNINGHAM OF ROBERETLAND Baronet
Biographical Summary
"Sir David Cuningham, Baronet [S 1630], son and heir, succeeded to the Baronetcy on the death of his father. He was insolvent and was a prisoner in the Tolbooth of Ayr. In 1696 was released by Parliament and had authority to dispose of all the estates for his creditors. Was accused of may frauds, as also of an endeavor to murder his father. He married Elizabeth, widow of James Cuningham, styled Lord Kilmaurs, 2nd daughter and coheir of William (Hamilton), 2nd Duke of Hamilton [S], by Elizabeth, daughter and coheir of James (Maxwell), Earl of Dirleton [S]. He was living August 1705, but died s.p.m., probably soon afterwards when the Baronetcy became dormant for about 7 years.'

30 July 1664: Precept (faint) from the Chancery of King Charles I. addressed to the sheriff and his bailies of Air, for infefting the said David Cunynghame as nearest and lawful heir of Margaret Cunynghame, his mother, in one-third part of the £10 land of Cambuskeith described in the preceding writ; and commanding them to take security for the sum of £10:13:6 Scots due in name of feu-farm and augmentation for said lands which were in the hands of the superior for 3 years (viz. £3:11:1½ for feu-farm and augmentation and £7: 2: 3 for a double thereof.) 8 July 1664: Certified Copy Retour of Inquest (defective) held on [8th July 1664] finding that David Cunynghame, lawful son of Alexander Cunynghame, was nearest and lawful, heir of his mother, Margaret Cunynghame, eldest sister-german and one of the three lawful and nearest heirs portioners of John Cunynghame of Cambuskeith in one-third part of the £10 land of old extent of Cambuskeith, lying on the north side of the Water of Irwing, as the same now runs, with tower, manor place, miln etc. within the bailiary of Cunynghame and sheriffdom of Air: Which lands are held of the prince and steward of Scotland in feu-farm for payment of £3: 6: 8 Scots and 4/5½ in augmentation of rental (which sums are to be doubled in the first year of the entry of heirs) and are in the hands of the superior since the decease of the liferentrix Margaret Knox, mother of the said Margaret Cunynghame, in the month of November 1661 National Records of Scotland, Sir William Fraser Charters, reference GD86/640
