Biographical Summary

"Sir William Cuningham, Baronet [S 1630] of Auchinskeith in Riccarton, cousin and heir male, being son and heir of William Cuningham of Auchinskeith, by (--) daughter of (--) Macilvein, of Grimmet, co Ayr, which William, who died June 1727, was son and heir of John Cuningham of Wattieson, who was son and heir of Christierne Cuningham, younger brother to Sir David Cuningham of Robertland, father of the 1st Baronet, to whom and to whose brothers the said Christierne, in 1619, was 'Tutor'. He succeeded his father in June 1727, to whom he was served heir general, 19 March 1734; had sasine of Inchbean and other lands, 12 October 1764, and was served heir male of his great great grandfather, Sir David Cuningham of Robertland, 3 August 1778, when he assumed the Baronetcy, as cousin and heir male of the 1st Baronet, grandson of Sir David last named. He married in 1741, Margaret, daughter of William Fairlie of Fairlie, co Ayr. He died 25 October 1781. His widow subsequently, in 1803, succeeded her brother, Alexander Fairlie, in the family estates, and became heir-of-line of the family of Mure, or Rowallan. She died 1811."
