James Hamilton was born before 1632. He was the son of Sir Frederick Hamilton and Sidney Vaughan.2 He married Hon. Catherine Hamilton, daughter of Claud Hamilton, 2nd Lord Hamilton, Baron of Strabane and Lady Jean Gordon, in 1647.1 He died on 27 December 1652.2

He lived at Manor Hamilton, Dromahaire, County Leitrim, IrelandG.2
